Mr. Du Shaozhong is currently the Chairman of China Beijing Environment Exchange. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1975. As a post-graduate of Party School of the Central Committee of CPC, Mr. Du once served as the Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, Deputy Director General, Inspector and spokesman of the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau. He was named “Figures of Green China” in 2006 and was one of the most influential civil officials on Weibo in 2011. He is the author of Modest Power from Weibo. Mr. Du is also the Director-general of the Beijing Society for Environmental Science, Vice-chairman of the Beijing Emission Trading Association, Vice-chairman of Government Public Relations Committee of China Public Relations Associations, Director of China Environmental Protection Foundation, Senior Researcher of Institute of Public Relations and Strategic Communications of Tsinghua University and Advisor of Leadership and Policy Research Center of Academy of Public Policy, Renmin University of China.

Mr. Du has intensive experience in environmental protection and climate change, especially in the field of using market based instrument to stimulate energy saving and emission reduction. During the time at Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, Mr. Du, as the project director/team leader, participated in various key research projects at municipal level, including The Establishment of Decision Support System for Beijing Motor Vehicle Pollution Control; Beijing V Vehicle Emission Standards, Technologies and Implementation; Diesel Emission Factors for Beijing Non-road Mobile Machinery as well as VOCs Emission Factors for Gas Stations. Since May, 2012, as Chairman of the China Beijing Environmental Exchange, Mr. Du has been actively promoting international cooperation and responsible for several projects which has important domestic and international impact such as Green Development Project with United Nations Development Programme, The Mechanism Design and Application for Building Carbon Emissions Trading with the British Embassy and the Beijing City Carbon Finance Study with Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.

On January 5, 2011, Mr. Du began to write Weibo with name ‘Basomtso Lang Wang‘, self-explained as an environment warrior labeled ‘Return to nature and wild‘. He was kindly called ‘the genuine official‘ by public bloggers. His Weibo, ‘Basomtso Lang Wang‘, was listed as top 10 official Weibo by ‘People‘ and ‘Sina‘. He has 3 million fans on Weibo by the end of May 2013.
